CRUSHER DUSTS
QPN crushed dusts are produced at Allandale Quarry for many purposes, some of which are as follows
- Fines for blending into road-base production
- Bedding layer for paving applications
- Bedding and haunch material for pipe laying
- Select fill for under concrete slabs
- Fill for applications where a fine product is preferred
- Natural fertiliser to replace mineral leaching from soils
- Flux for use in ceramic tile production
Crusher dust is manufactured by passing run of crusher material over a 4mm sieve with the resulting material that passes through the sieve being called dust. Most of the dust is used in the production of pavement materials as it constitutes approximately 35 to 45% of road-base.
Current research is looking at the use of crushed dusts to replace agricultural fertilisers. Certain dusts when combined with biological additives enhance soil development in both depth of soil and organic activity within the soil. This ability allows the soil to become a greater “sink” for atmospheric carbon (CO2).
